We have developed a range or courses to meet the needs of HCPs to help ensure the best Type 2 diabetes patient. Following requests from ICBs and training hubs we have designed the below courses.

If you have any questions about any course/s, would like the costs of the course/s or would like to schedule a meeting please contact lauren.songhurst@pitstopdiabetes.co.uk

1-day PITstop Support course for Community Nurse Prescribers
focusing on housebound patients on insulin and the use of continuous glucose monitoring to ensure their insulin dose and regimen is correct

Aim

The course aims to provide students with insight and resources, enabling them to support an elderly,

frail, housebound person with type 2 diabetes on a complex treatment regimen, including insulin. We aim to use national and international guidelines and up-to-date evidence throughout the course. Our ultimate aim is for students to both define their prescribing scope of practice with diabetes medications

and embed the learnt skills in clinical practice to improve patient care.

Learning Outcomes

  • On completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Set blood glucose target ranges in line with an individual HbA1c target
  • Understand the diabetes medications suitable for the elderly, frail person with type 2 diabetes
  • Explain the common insulin regimens used to treat people with type 2 and type 1 diabetes
  • Understand the PITstop insulin general rules, including insulin titration
  • Understand the principles in managing and interpreting interstitial glucose sensors
  • Understand key subjects related to insulin that are relevant to diabetes review appointments
  • Apply partnership working with patients to promote self-management of injectable therapies, working
  • towards individual glycaemic targets
  • Consider how they can best support people with type 2 diabetes on GLP-1s and insulin.

1-day PITstop Support course for Mental Health HCPs
supporting people with type 2 diabetes on complex medication regimens, including GLP-1 Agonists and insulin

Aim

This course will provide the student with insight into the support a person with type 2 diabetes requires on GLP-1 Receptor Agonists (GLP-1s) and insulin, using national and international guidelines and up-to-date evidence. The aim is to encourage students to consider their scope of practice in supporting people with type 2 diabetes on GLP-1s and insulin.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • explain when it is appropriate to start injectable therapies for people with type 2 diabetes
  • know the GLP-1s and insulins commonly used for people with type 2 diabetes
  • refer to the PITstop GLP-1 care pathway
  • understand the PITstop insulin general rules
  • understand subjects related to insulin that are relevant to diabetes review appointments
  • apply partnership working with patients to promote self-management of injectable therapies, working towards individual glycaemic targets
  • consider how they can best support people with type 2 diabetes on GLP-1s and insulin.
